NXTcomm08
Innovation is the ultimate solution



Attended by 500 exhibitors from all over the world, NXTcomm08 was held from 16-19 June 2008 at Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas. The four-day signage event delivered a future vision to serve as epicenter of the communication industry. Notable keynote speakers who delivered commentaries on future of communication and entertainment during the mega event included Randall Stephenson, AT&T; Sol Trujillo, Telstra; Denny Strigl, Verizon; Dan Hesse, Sprint Nextel; Jagdeep Singh, Infinera; and Scott McNealy, Sun Microsystems.

AT&T delegate led by Randall Stephenson explored all the exhibition floors and interacted with numerous exhibitors. Dr Richards R Green, president and chief executive officer of Cable Television Laboratories Inc kicked off the final day of NXTcomm08 with his keynote address highlighting convergence, interoperability and importance of openness in networking. During his speech, Green highlighted his company’s adoption of True2way as an example of industry’s collaboration and adoption of open standards.

“Greater openness and open platforms in the access network are fundamental to attracting innovators,” he said.

Jagdeep Singh, president, CEO and founder of Infinera outlined the importance of innovation broadband network deployment. “Are we up to the challenge of overcoming and innovating around a dangerous bandwidth bottleneck?” he asked adding that the current pace of innovation in the optical core network is insufficient to meet future demand. Singh urged the industry to move away from creating similar products that compete on price in favour of differentiating themselves through innovation.

On the last day of the show, Hollywood producer Mark Burnett who is popular for his movies like Survivor and The Apprentice delivered his views on content creation and technology. Burnett used entertaining stories from his life and rise to fame to illustrate the importance of entrepreneurship and creativity.

Next NXTcomm09 show is scheduled for 8-11 June 2009 in Chicago’s McCormick Place. Continuing to push the industry dialogue towards topics, such as entertainment and content, NXTcomm09 will remain focused on showcasing network-enabled voice, video and data from the perspectives of both business and technology. With all buzz surrounding this year’s show, NXTcomm09 promises to be an even more groundbreaking event.

Harrods retail outlet wears new digitised look

Apart from being a home to the world’s leading luxury fashion brands, Harrods’ latest retail outlet opened in March this year at Heathrow Terminal 5, London did get a new digitised look.
