Signage solution for traffic jam

Providing real-time traffic and public transport information to visitors at amusement parks, zoos, road restaurants and conference centres, Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Road Administration) and Koninklijk Horeca Nederland (Dutch Royal Catering Establishment Industry) have used PADS digital signage software to control traffic jams across the Netherlands. Developed by Net Display System, the signage software creates a network of screens showing details about various aspects of traffic jams occurring in the surrounding areas. For example, ‘Rush Hour Menu’ has to stimulate visitors to stay longer at the location when there is traffic jam and train delay. “This project is a typical example where digital signage can show its added value”, says Arthur Damen, product manager of Net Display Systems. He added that the information relevant to a specific location would provide visitors a deliberate choice: join the traffic jam or postpone the departure for a while and make use of the offered alternative. Despite the whole system being monitored centrally, the content will also be determined locally. Besides traffic information this digital network is one such medium providing train arrival/ departure info, weather information and useful websites.
