Barco’s broadcast monitoring system
for Spanish Telecinco
Barco announces to install network broadcasting monitoring system in the news studio control room of Spain’s leading commercial TV-station Telecinco in Madrid. The contract for digital screen network underlines the customer value of Barco’s revolutionary concept, whereby video sources and metadata will be distributed over an IP network throughout the broadcast facility. The networked monitoring system is currently being implemented but it will be operational soon in near future.
Set up in 1990, Telecinco is one of Spain’s leading private TV companies, which is part of Gestevisión Telecinco S A Group. The Group’s main activities include the creation, production and distribution of television programming, and provision of television edit, outside broadcast and transmission facilities. To further optimize its news studio control room, Telecinco decided to invest in Barco’s IP-centric broadcast monitoring system. The installation marks the first implementation of this networked broadcast monitoring system in Spain.
In the first phase, 72 SDI inputs will be connected to the system, with 12 DVI outputs to be displayed on as many of Barco’s dedicated LCN-47 LCD screens. Ten of these screens are placed in the camera and production control room, other two located in the sound control room. And in the second phase of the project, another 48 inputs will be added to the system so that 200 journalists can access video sources over the network.
A crucial factor in Telecinco’s decision to select Barco was the distributed architecture of the networked broadcast monitoring system, whereby high-quality, low-latency distribution of video sources and metadata over an Internet Protocol (IP) network towards multiple screens. Luis Miguel Gonzalez, project manager at Telecinco said, “We selected this unique Barco solution because of its decentralised concept,” He also expressed that the network make staffs share the signals between different rooms and locations so that everyone can view and use the same stream of images simultaneously.
